This post is dedicated to my favourite room in our newly renovated home... the kitchen. I designed it (with some suggestions from Nick) and Nick built it (with some help from me). I have no regrets when it comes to the layout or the finishes, and so I want to take a few minutes to share some of the details.

All of the cabinets are custom which allows us to take full advantage of the space, give a built-in feel to our appliances, and accomodate interior organizers galore. An unimaginable amount of effort went into this custom cottage build in the Gravenhurst area, and Kent Custom Carpentry is thrilled to share that this project is complete... and absolutely spectacular! As the finishing touches have been made, I figured I should probably get around to sharing some photos of the exterior.

The wall of windows on this side of the cottage will allow the owners to take full advantage of the lake view from their great room, dining room, kitchen, and master su...

Small Bathroom... When working with a small space, it's all about making the most of what you have. This ensuite bathroom renovation in Oakville does just that. A shower niche and some trendy rustic wood-and-iron shelves give the homeowners extra storage. This bench seat with a white granite top not only adds dimension to the shower but is also convenient... in my opinion a must-have if the shower space is available! Using light paint on the walls and white subway tile was an fabulous way to keep this b...

Merry Christmas from Kent Carpentry | And Handmade Gifts to Swoon Over

Merry Christmas from the Kent Custom Carpentry team!

We wish you a safe and happy holiday with friends and family.

The Kent Carpentry team had a busy December wrapping up many projects so that their clients would be able to enjoy (and show off!) their renovations during the holidays. Even with all of the December chaos, Nick and I found the time to collaborate on some handmade gifts for our loved ones. Now that the big day has come and gone, and all of the presents under the ...

Vintage Vanity: A Love Story | One-of-a-Kind Bathroom Renovations

I am ALL about vintage bathroom vanities... And that's a good thing, because I have not one but TWO of them in my newly renovated house. My obsession started 4 years ago when Nick and I were planning to redo our one-and-only bathroom. I had had enough of the peach bathtub, stick-on tiles, and the ever-disgusting window-in-the-shower. I've tucked this image in the far back reaches of my memory, and even though I'm mortified to show you, here it goes...

This past summer, the Kent Carpentry crew embarked on quite the adventure. They were tasked with building a 2700 square foot cottage AND a 3-car garage complete with loft in the Muskoka area. The location: A hill overlooking a peaceful and picturesque lake that the boys affectionately nicknamed "Little Bug Bite".

I had been looking for some glass-paned wooden windows for a while and hadn't found anything that suited my fancy. Low and behold, during the renovation, we removed this beauty from our basement:

Cooking is my passion, my favorite pastime, and my preferred way to relieve stress. I rarely eat out, and when I do I am usually disappointed. That said, the focus of my concern before and during this renovation has been my kitchen.

This may sound bizarre, but I wasn't worried that I would need to pack the majority of my belongings into a storage unit, or that we would have only one 10x10 room to function as a combination bedroom, living room, and office. It was not that we would h...

Hurricane Kent - The Calm Before the Storm | A Home Renovation Story

Before we broke ground for our renovation (also referred to as Hurricane Kent), I had all of these fantastic ideas that I would blog about it along the way. Then reality happened, and in the blink of an eye we were living in the midst of utter chaos. Although we are still in the thick of it, and will be for sometime, I figure if I'm going to share my experiences with you, it's now or never!

Out with Wood... In with White

Browsing through photos of recent projects I have noticed a continuing trend. In the past year or so. Client requests for wood cabinetry seem to have disappeared almost completely and have been replaced by a demand for units in subtle yet radiant white. You may wonder why, when wood provides such rich colouration, but the photos of our white built-in units are proof that white is not boring, but eye-catching and vibrant. Any one of these custom pieces has...

Custom Cabinetry: Fireplace, Entertainment, Display and Storage

Designed by Claire Jefford of Creating Contrast Designs, this entirely custom built-in entertainment and fireplace unit has turned a plain wall in to a work of art in itself. The combined efforts of Creating Contrast Designs and Kent Custom Carpentry resulted in a stunning unit and will hopefully mark the first of many successful projects together.
